Grow Green!- Environmental Education for All is a small-scale Erasmus + partnership in adult education,  between two partner institutions: Transivalvanian Educational Services and Tourism from Cluj-Napoca, Romania and Nista d.o.o from Koper, Slovenia. This project has recently come to an end and we would like to share its main aspects with you.

The primary aim of the partnership was to support underserved local communities in enhancing environmental-friendly behaviour. Since environmental education is not included in the curriculum of kindergarten and primary school children neither in Romania nor in Slovenia, the activity of the project was a gap-filler in both countries.

In order to raise a generation that is conscious of the importance of leading a sustainable life and being able to fight against climate change, education needs to start as early as possible, even in kindergarten. If formal education may not prove to be enough, an emphasis should be laid on how well-educated parents are in this field. Inevitably, we need to involve parents first in green education in order to reach the children and make them environmentally sensitive. Grow Green! offered access to workshops for parents fighting with social, economic and geographical barriers, such as unemployment, low income as well slow level of information flow due to the circumstances in rural areas, in the recognition of the fact that parents have the main influence on the attitudes and behaviours of young children.

The target groups of the project were non-formal educators and parents of kindergarten and elementary school children. The results of the collaboration were various and they extended to all the members of the target group. Online webinars were carried out for educators in order to acquire new perspectives and new teaching approaches in how to raise awareness of the importance of environmentally-friendly behaviour and how to deal with parental environmental education.

Educational videos created for children and parents to increase their competences in being environmentally aware were the other main results of the project. The local workshops organised for parents about sustainable ways of living were probably the most practical result of the project providing participants with useful ideas and hands-on practices on how to adopt an environmentally friendly lifestyle.
